DIY Doily

This DIY is inspired by a crochet doily found in a charity shop and came up with the idea of working it into another old item I didn't use anymore and wanted to make wearable again. The combination of an old white vest and a pink crochet doily would hopefully bring the love for the top back.

You’ll need

  • A Vest

  • Some doilies /crochet mats

  • Sewing Machine

  • Pins

  • Needle

  • Cotton

  • Scissors

Step 1 - Try the vest on and decide where you would like your crochet to go. Once you have decided, lay the vest on a flat surface and measure the middle point of the crochet. Place this along the seamline of the vest.

Step 2 - Pin half the crochet onto the vest, making sure to pin through to the other side.

Step 3 -Flip the vest over so you can see the pin marks from the opposite side.

Step 4 - Begin to delicately and slowly cut the vest, preferably with decent fabric scissors.

Use the pins as a guideline whilst cutting.

Step 5 - Take the vest and lay it flat on its side, so you can now see the cut out circle.

Begin to pin the crochet doily to the edges of the circle. (pin all the way around).

Step 6- sew the crochet doily in place using a sewing machine. Stitch the doily firmly in place and cut away any excess cotton.

You are now the owner of a crochet doily inspired vest - a stand out item. It is a stunner where you can show a bit of flesh but not too much.

Now go somewhere lovely and wear the vest or perhaps your next sunny holiday?
