DIY Denim Skirt

Secondhand items have so much potential and in this post I will be turning a pair of jeans bought for minimal cost at the local Cancer Research charity shop into a customised skirt.

If you want some charity shop inspiration, check out this ‘Charity shop Love’ post and if want an alternative way to explore all your favourite charity shops there is now a Charity shop Gift Card!

You will need

• Old Jeans/trousers

• Scissors

• Sewing Machine

For customisation

• Fabric of choice

• Template of choice

Step 1 - Go to your local charity shop and buy jeans of choice

Step 2 - Cut each leg to the length required, leaving a couple of inches excess.

Step 3 - Flatten out the jeans at the crotch area and cut along the seams.

Step 4 - Cut along the seam running from the zip - roughly 2 inches, enough to fold and pin.

Step 5 - Do the same at the back. Roughly 2-3 inches.

Step 6 - Front. Pin where you have just cut.

Step 7 - Back. Pin the back section where you have just pinned and stitch along front and back sections.

Step 8 - Use the excess material cut from the jean leg and pin into the space at the front and back.

Step 10 - Pin excess material into the back

Step 11- Take your template, could be a star, heart or whatever preferred and sew onto fabric of choice.

Step 12 - Sew on the stars in the preferred place on the skirt and admire your newly customised skirt ready for summer!

Step 9 - Pin excess material into the front
